Bachelor of Music in 表演

Develop the skills to perform professionally with the Bachelor of Music (BM) in 表演 in Temple’s Boyer College of Music 和 Dance. You’ll choose from a range of concentrations. This 124-credit, full-time bachelor’s degree prepares you with intensive coaching 和 training by 教师 from well-known institutions such as Opera Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Ballet 和 The Philadelphia Orchestra.

The liberal arts curriculum in the Bachelor of Music in 表演 program emphasizes both solo 和 ensemble performance through h和s-on instruction, providing pathways for careers in all facets of musical performance.

In addition to eight semesters of private lessons 和 ensemble performances, students complete coursework in aural theory, music history 和 theory, 和 other courses that vary by concentration. 课程 also focus on specific business aspects of the field to prepare you for the professional world.

As part of the Center for Performing 和 Cinematic 艺术, 表演 BM students have opportunities to participate in ensembles 和 productions at the Temple Performing 艺术 Center, in addition to the Kimmel Center for the Performing 艺术 in Philadelphia 和 the iconic Lincoln Center for the Performing 艺术 in New York City.

Concentrations

Choose to focus on one of the following concentrations.

Study will focus on masterworks of symphonic repertoire in addition to classics of today. Real world instruction arrives from student involvement in one or all of the university’s three orchestras — Opera, Sinfonia or the Symphony Orchestra. Much of the studio 教师 are members of The Philadelphia Orchestra 和 other major metropolitan performance organizations.

木管乐器和 brass students will have extensive performance opportunities through university orchestras, b和s 和 chamber music ensembles. You will study with 教师 who make music at the highest levels of artistry: Much of Boyer's studio 教师 is drawn from the Philadelphia Orchestra 和 other top metropolitan performing organizations.

打击乐器 students have opportunities to perform in a wide range of ensembles, including symphony orchestra, percussion ensemble, 大乐队, 爵士乐组合, 和 Latin 和 Brazilian musical ensembles. A diverse musical curriculum complements private instruction 和 ensemble coaching by 教师 members who are themselves high-caliber performers.

Temple alumni holding BM, MM 和 DMA degrees in 打击乐器 perform all over the world, with many others holding respected teaching positions at universities 和 conservatories across the country.

The Department of 键盘 Studies provides a variety of programs tailored to future keyboard solo artists, chamber musicians, accompanists 和 teachers. Students have weekly private instruction with Boyer 教师 along with regular performance 和 master classes taught by both members of 教师和 guest artists.

Instruction will arrive by way of private lessons with Boyer 教师 in addition to rehearsals, master classes 和 studio classes. Students seeking a career in opera will perform a pair of fully staged operas in addition to opera scenes, concerts 和 recitals. Students seeking to study Choral Activities routinely perform in one of Temple’s seven choirs 和 receive opportunities to perform at professional conferences in addition to an annual concert alongside Temple’s Symphony Orchestra at the Kimmel Center for the Performing 艺术.

In addition to requisite general education courses, all students in the 表演 BM are required to take a minimum of two writing-intensive courses in music history. Additionally, some of the core coursework varies depending on your chosen concentration.
